Demain’s Amanda Karling to Speak at Advancing Design Integration
On September 6 at 9:30 a.m. CDT, Karling will co-present a session titled “Ensuring Design Remains an Output of Cost to Uphold Integrity of Design Decisions” with Jenny Han, Director – Design Integration, The Boldt Company and John Zachara, Vice President, Integrated Facilities Solutions, Ltd. Discussion points will include:
- Distinguishing between must-haves and negotiables from owner requirements to be able to maintain the integrity of the design while also being cost-sensitive
- Integrating conceptual estimating into the design process to keep partners informed and accountable
- Communicating expectations to builders regarding known and unknown information to enable an open dialogue on potential cost implications
That afternoon, at 2:30 p.m. CDT, Karling will join a panel discussion titled “Exploring the Future of Design Collaboration for a Single, Integrated Workflow.” Karling and her fellow panelists will discuss several topics, including:
- Identifying the primary barriers to achieving truly integrated design workflows and strategies for overcoming them.
- Examining the evolution of contracting methods, collaboration tools, and project typologies, and their potential impact on the future of design integration.
- Collaborating with firm leadership to ensure that a culture of collaboration is deeply embedded within the company and that all employees are empowered to work in more collaborative design settings.
Joining Karling on the panel are industry leaders Sean Doyle, Director of Integrated Design at Bond Building Construction, Inc., Patrick Duke, Managing Director at Turner and Townsend, and Justin Wise, Principal of Integrated Project Delivery at Stantec.
Advancing Design Integration is the premier event dedicated to fostering collaborative and integrated design processes in the construction and design industries. The forum will bring together professionals from across the sector to share best practices and lessons learned in transforming traditionally siloed cultures, workflows, and partnerships. The event will emphasize real-world project experiences and insights from some of the most complex and technical construction markets, focusing on transforming team mindsets, managing cross-stakeholder collaboration, and maximizing the role of Design Managers to ensure projects are completed with higher quality, increased speed, and reduced risk.
